Pulaski County Sewer Board appt. made

By a 2-1 vote, the Pulaski County Commission on Thursday appointed Mark Cortesini to the Pulaski County Sewer Board.

The appointment was opposed by Western District Commissioner Dennis Thornsberry who favored appointing Charles Bassett and Tony Crismon to fill two vacancies on the board. Thornsberry made a motion to appoint Bassett and Crismon but it died for lack of a second.

Eastern District Commissioner Bill Farnham opposed reappointing Bassett, whose previous term on the board had just expired, because he wanted to appoint a member from the Cullen Township to meet what he said are the required number of area representatives on the board.

Seymour native Wayne Jessen is the new head boys’ basketball coach at Van Buren.

Jessen takes over a program with legendary status in state basketball circles as the Wildcats of the Big Springs Conference have posted only five losing seasons since 1950, including a Class S state championship in 1960 and a Class 1A state title in 1992.
